Our Institute

Galveston Music Company descended from Galveston’s own Island Music. Robert “Bubba’ Donovan had Galveston’s full service music store for more than thirty years. As the local brick and mortar music business felt the pinch of the internet, Bubba re-imagined his business as a music education studio with some supportive retail. He partnered with some exceptional Galveston music teachers: Manuel Pedraza for Guitar and Bass, Bert Wills for Guitar, Joe Sewell, Carol Toombs, and Jessica Staudt for piano, Ronnie McLauchlin for percussion, Cindy Cates for woodwinds. Later Richard Roach joined as a multi-instrumentalist with a String and Brass background, and Taylor Lauren joined as vocal instructor.

The studio’s philosophy was and still is to emphasize the basics of technique, have a strong focus on reading music and performing, build the students motivation for practice and goal attainment, and have fun in the process. Music education with this approach has been shown to benefit children academically, socially, and developmentally. Adult students and retirees seeking to fulfill a lifelong dream of learning music or to return to an instrument they set aside years ago benefit by improving mental acuity, memory and escaping stress. We all benefit from the connection to beauty, self expression and creativity that springs from development of musical skills.

Richard Roach as the new owner is dedicated to continuing this philosophy and in collaboration with teacher/partners, will continue to provide quality music educational experiences for our clients.
